Professional tree care across Aberdeenshire and North East Scotland.
Pruning should start with a clear purpose: establishing a young tree’s structure, managing clearance or removing particular defective branches. The tree’s species, age and condition influence which cuts are appropriate and when the work should be carried out.

The right work at the right time
There is no universal pruning calendar. Some species are better pruned during summer, and drought, frost or poor condition can affect the timing. Unnecessary or excessive pruning can stress a tree, so the amount removed matters as much as the finished appearance.
Young trees and established trees
Formative pruning can guide a young tree’s development while branches are still small. Mature trees need a different approach, with care over the size and number of wounds. We can discuss a suitable plan for your tree and the space it occupies.
For further background, see the Arboricultural Association’s guide to tree pruning.
Before work is arranged
Tell us about protected trees, nearby buildings, overhead cables and restricted access. Permissions and wildlife constraints can affect the scope and timing. Read our planning FAQs for more information.
